  • DreamWorks to distribute Typhoon in U.S.
  • Dec 30, 2005
  • Hollywood major studio DreamWorks has reached an agreement to distribute K.T. KWAK's film Typhoon in North America in 2006. The film is expected to be the first Korean title ever distributed by a U.S. major. Although details about the release have not yet been determined, the director and representatives from Korean distributor CJ Entertainment will travel to the U.S. in January to negotiate on the size and dates of a release. Typhoon, featuring top star JANG Dong-gun together with LEE Jung-jae and LEE Mi-yeon, tells the story of a modern-day pirate who plans a massive terrorist attack on North and South Korea to avenge his family's troubled history. The film, which ranks as the highest budget film in Korean history with a production budget of $15m, sold over three million tickets in the two weeks following its release on December 14. CJ Entertainment, which financed and distributed the film in Korea, is a major stockholder in DreamWorks and has taken an active interest in the North American market in the past year.
