  • IM Kwon-taek to direct 100th feature
  • Nov 16, 2005
  • Veteran director IM Kwon-taek, who won the Best Director award at Cannes in 2004 for his film Chihwaseon, has announced details of his upcoming feature, which will rank as the 100th in his career. To be titledCheon-nyeon-hak in Korean (which means literally "Thousand Year Crane"), the film will be based on a story from the same book by LEE Cheong-jun that provided the inspiration for IM's 1993 classic Sopyonje. Actress OH Jeong-hae will return to the screen to once again play the role of Songhwa, the lead character from Sopyonje who makes a living as a singer of pansori (a traditional vocal art originating in the southwest part of Korea). Also cast in the film will be Kim Young-min (Address Unknown) in the role of her brother Dongho. To be produced by Taehung Pictures, and financed and distributed by Lotte Entertainment, the film is scheduled to start shooting by the end of November.
