  • Grain In Ear wins top prize at Pesaro
  • Jul 08, 2005
  • Grain In Ear, a Chinese-Korean co-production by director ZHANG Lu, was presented with the grand prize at the 2005 Pesaro Film Festival in Italy. The film, which received its world premiere in the Critics Week section of the Cannes Film Festival, tells the story of an ethnic Korean woman living in China who struggles to support her son. Zhang himself is also Korean-Chinese, and he first attracted attention two years ago with his debut film Tang Poetry. Zhang is also established in China as a novelist. As the grand prizewinner among the eight films in the Pesaro New Cinema section, Zhang will receive a cash award of 5000 euros. Grain in Ear was co-produced by Korea's Doo Films and China's Shu Film Workshop, and it also received post production support from KOFIC. This year the Pesaro Festival featured a complete retrospective on the work of Korean director JANG Sun-woo, from his early work such as Road to the Racetrack, Lovers of Woomook-baemi and To You, From Me, to his more recent work such as Lies and Resurrection of the Little Match Girl. The festival also screened a special focus on Korean digital films, including PARK Ki-yong's Camel(s) (2002), KIM Dong-won's Repatriation (2004), MOON Seung-wook's Nabi (2001), KIM Gok and KIM Sun's Capitalist Manifesto: Working Men Of All Countries, Accumulate! (2003), and LEE Ji-sang's Ten Ox-Herding Pictures: Going Out in Search of the Ox (2004).
