  • KOFIC Awards Danny Lee 2008 FDL Grant

The Korean Film Council’s 2008 Filmmakers Development Lab (FDL) named Korean-American director Danny Lee as recipient of the Best Project Award, a US $15,000 cash grant for his feature film script “Winter War.”

Born and raised in Los Angeles, writer/director Lee was featured in the March 2007 Paper Magazine's 10th Annual Beautiful People issue, highlighting him as one of the filmmakers to watch.  His latest project is a thriller about a young commodities broker with big ambitions who gets dangerously involved in a European drug syndicate.

Lee made his feature film debut with the critically acclaimed <Rock Fresh>, a candid documentary on the lives of graffiti artists making the leap into commercial art. The film world premiered at the AFI Fest where Variety singled it out as one of the films to watch.

In 2006, Lee wrote and directed his narrative debut <King of Hollywood>, a black comedy about a street hustler trying to make it in Tinseltown.  Lee has since formed his own production company Calico Arts, with three projects in development which he scripted:  <Backpackers>, <Winter War>, and <Don’t Call Me Gerry Cooney>.

KOFIC’s FDL is an annual event to connect industry professionals with talented local and overseas Korean filmmakers for the advancement of their English language feature film.  This year’s lab was held June 22 – 29 in Jeju Island, South Korea.
