  • Korean Director Kim Hong-sun Signs With CAA
  • by Variety /  Jan 15, 2024
  • Kim Hong-sun

Korean film and TV director Kim Hong-sun has signed with U.S. talent agency Creative Arts Agency (CAA) for representation.

A prolific director and producer, Kim specializes in genre television, including action, thrillers and horror.

His credits include: six episodes of Netflix’s “Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area”; the first season of Korean crime thriller series “Voice,” produced by Content K and which played on Netflix; and “Son: The Guest,” a Studio Dragon production for Netflix which competed at Series Mania in 2019.

In 2017, Kim directed, wrote, and produced the feature film “The Age of Blood,” headlined by Jung Hae-in, star of “12.12: The Day,” the highest grossing film of 2023 in Korea. The period action film about an ace swordsman in the king’s guard who suddenly finds himself demoted to prison warden and immediately has to defend against rebellion, had a theatrical release in November that year and garnered $166,000. International sales were handled by M-Line Distribution.

Kim (who should not be confused with another director of the same name responsible for “Project Wolf Hunting”) also directed such shows as “L.U.C.A.: The Beginning,” “Liar Game” and “Pied Piper,” as well as the Coupang Play series “Decoy,” which streams internationally on Amazon’s Prime Video.

Kim is currently shooting the Netflix series “Hong Rang,” a mystery melodrama period piece, slated for a 2024 release.

He also executive produces projects through his production banner H House. The company is a producer on “Hong Rang,” “L.U.C.A.: The Beginning” and 2020 series “Tell Me What You Saw.”

At CAA Kim will be represented by Nick Lafferty and Kara Petit.
