Minari, Lee Isaac CHUNG’s acclaimed drama about Korean immigrants setting up a farm in 1980s Arkansas, has picked up two prizes at this year’s 26th Critic’s Choice Awards. The film earned the Best Foreign Language Film Award, while actor Alan S. KIM picked up the award for Best Young Actor or Actress.

The film, which also stars Steven YEUN, HAN Ye-ri and YOUN Yuh-jung, was nominated for a total of 10 prizes at the event, including Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Actor (Steven YEUN) and Best Supporting Actress (YOUN Yuh-jung). It beat Another Round, Collective, La Llorona, The Life Ahead and Two Of Us to win the Best Foreign Language Film Award. 

Following his Grand Prize win at the Sundance Film Festival, where it had its world premiere last year, the American film from Korean American director CHUNG has been building momentum throughout the awards season. The film also picked up the Best Foreign Language Film Award from the Golden Globes.

YEUN and HAN play a young Korean couple who move from California to Arkansas to pursue the husband’s farming dream. YOUNG is the mother-in-law who comes to stay with them while KIM plays one of their children. The film is partly based on Director CHUNG’s upbringing. Minari is his fourth feature film.
