  • MOVING ON Picks Up Top Prize at New York Asian Film Festival
  • by Pierce Conran /  Oct 09, 2020
  • YUN Dan-bi Wins NYAFF’s Uncaged Award for Best Feature Film

YUN Dan-bi’s acclaimed debut film Moving On has picked up yet another prize on the festival circuit, this time at the recently concluded New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF). The indie drama picked up the Uncaged Award for Best Feature Film, for which debut or sophomore films were eligible.

Moving On follows a young girl and her younger brother who move with their divorced father to their grandfather’s house. Their father struggles to earn a living and their grandfather is beginning to show signs of dementia, and soon their aunt, having also fallen on hard times, comes to stay with them.

The film premiered last year at the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) in the Korean Cinema Today - Vision section, where it earned the NETPAC Award, DGK Award, Citizen Critics Award and KTH Award. It went on to screen at the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) earlier this year, where it won the Bright Future Award.

This year’s edition of NYAFF was conducted online owing to global disruptions from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and kicked off for two weeks in late August, a slight delay from its usual June-July schedule. As usual, many Korean films screened at the event, and this year’s recipient of the Rising Star Award was actress LEE Joo-young, who recently played the leading role in Baseball Girl (2019), which also screened at the New York event.
