  • Cannes-Screened Short Animation Continues Awards Run

JEONG Da-hee’s animated short Movements, which debuted in the Directors’ Fortnight sidebar at the Cannes Film Festival this year, has picked up the Silver Spike award in the short film competition from the Valladolid International Film Festival in Spain.

Movements is a film that explores the relationship between the different elements of the worlds, each always moving together but at different speeds.

Prior to Valladolid, JEONG’s work received the Grand Prize 'Star of Indie’ at the Indie-AniFest: Korean Independent Animation Film Festival, the Gold Audience Award from the Great Short Film Festival and the Jury Prize and the Special Distinction Prize from the Bucheon International Animation Festival (BIAF). Some of the film’s biggest stops on the festival circuit have included the Annecy International Animated Film Festival, Animafest Zagreb and the Warsaw International Film Festival.

Director JEONG is no stranger to festivals and awards, having helmed several acclaimed works in the past. Her short Man on the Chair (2014), which also debuted in the Directors’ Fortnight program, picked up the Annecy Cristal from the Annecy International Animated Film Festival as well as a Special International Jury Prize at the International Animation Festival Hiroshima. Two years later, her film The Empty (2016) earned the Grand Prix in Hiroshima.
