  • RYU Seung-ryong and YUM Jung-ah Join LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL
  • by Pierce Conran /  Aug 01, 2019
  • DEFAULT Director Tackles Musical for Next Project

Extreme Job star RYU Seung-ryong and YUM Jung-ah, hot off the sensational hit TV show Sky Castle, are set to join forces as an on-screen couple for Default (2018) director CHOI Kook-hee on the upcoming musical drama Life Is Beautiful (working title).

The film will follow Oh Se-yeon (YUM Jung-ah), a woman who asks her husband Kang Jin-bong (RYU Seung-ryong) to help her find her first love. Left with no choice, Jin-bong joins Se-yeon on the road. Life Is Beautiful will feature a repertory of famous songs, familiar to anyone having grown up in Korea.

RYU’s latest film Extreme Job soared past 16 million viewers to become the second most successful Korean film of all time, but he’s passed the ten million mark three times before, in the period drama Masquerade (2012), the comedy-drama Miracle in Cell No.7 (2013) and the period war film Roaring Currents (2014). He also recently appeared in the first Netflix Original series, the period horror-drama Kingdom.

YUM has been known to global audiences since appearing in KIM Jee-woon’s classic horror A Tale Of Two Sisters (2003). Her recent credits include the horror film The Mimic (2017), the dinner party-gone-wrong comedy-drama Intimate Strangers (2018), the action-drama Hit-and-Run Squad and the acclaimed drama Another Child.

Director CHOI debuted in 2016 with the bowling drama-thriller SPLIT with YOO Ji-tae and LEE Jung-hyun and followed that up with last year’s hit financial thriller Default. Starring KIM Hye-soo, YOO Ah-in and Vincent CASSEL, the film welcomed over 3.7 million viewers to theaters.

Extreme Job and Intimate Strangers scribe BAE Se-yeong is on board to do the script while production company The LAMP, responsible for A Taxi Driver (2017), is also on board. Life is Beautiful is set to enter production this coming October.
