Period Drama Reunites CHOI Min-shik and HAN Suk-kyu
The upcoming period drama Forbidden Dream (working title) completed four months of production on January 23, after filming in various locations all around the country. The film reunites actors CHOI Min-shik and HAN Suk-kyu for the third time and marks the eighth feature-length directorial outing for the renowned melodrama specialist HUR Jin-ho.
HUR’s work follows the forgotten story of King Sejong, the fourth king of Korea’s Joseon Dynasty, played here by HAN, and the astronomer and scientist JANG Yeong-sil (played by CHOI), whose contribution to Korea’s technological advancement is not well known by the greater public. The film details the intriguing relationship between the pair.
CHOI’s recent roles have included leading parts in Heart Blackened (2017), The Mayor (2017) and The Tiger (2015), while HAN was seen in The Prison in 2017 and appeared in Idol, which debuted at the Berlin International Film Festival this month. The pair previously collaborated on the classic crime drama No. 3 (1997) and the North Korea-themed action-drama Swiri (1999). Coming twenty years after their last on-screen pairing, Forbidden Dream has aroused interest owing to their new collaboration.
Forbidden Dream is aiming for a release at some point during the second half of this year.
