  • CONTENTS PANDA Finds Global Buyers for UNDERDOG
  • by Pierce Conran /  Jan 09, 2019
  • Korean Animation to Sells Across North America, Europe and Asia

Korean sales agent CONTENTS PANDA has announced a slew of deals for its new animated title Underdog. The film, from the people behind the 2011 animated hit Leafie, a Hen Into the Wild, has found buyers across North America, Europe and Asia, where viewers will be able to see the film following its Korean theatrical release on January 16.

Underdog was picked up by Well Go USA for the United States and Canada, The Jokers Films for France and Fashion League in China. In addition to Chinese distribution rights, Fashion League has also taken a stake in the film and acquired rights for further Asian territories such as Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.

The films features Moong-chi, an abandoned dog voiced by DOH Kyung-soo (Swing Kids, 2018), who teams up with other dogs, some wild, others former pets, as they journey in search of greener pastures when human civilization encroaches on their homes. Co-directors OH Sung-yoon and LEE Choon-baek previously worked on Leafie, a Hen Into the Wild, which welcomed 2.2 million spectators, a record for a Korean animation. PARK So-dam (The Priests, 2015) and PARK Cheol-min (Operation Chromite, 2016) also feature in the voice cast.

The animation initially premiered as the closing film of last summer’s Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival and underwent some additional post-production prior to its general release this month.
