GRASS, HOTEL BY THE RIVER and BURNING Invited to NYFF
The New York Film Festival (NYFF), one of the top events on the fall festival calendar, has unveiled the main slate for its 56th edition this year. Two new works by
Hong Sangsoo and the latest film by
LEE Chang-dong are featured in the program.
Hong’s
Grass and
Hotel by the River, his 21st and 22nd films which were both
shot in black and white and feature his leading actress
KIM Min-hee, are set to screen at NYFF. Grass premiered in the ‘Forum’ section of the Berlin International Film Festival in February while
Hotel by the River is currently competing at the Locarno International Film Festival. Hong’s films have been featured in NYFF several times over the years, most recently with
Yourself and Yours in 2016.
NYFF will also present
BURNING, the sixth film by acclaimed auteur
LEE Chang-dong. His first film following an eight-year hiatus,
BURNING debuted in competition at the Cannes Film Festival in May. Based on a short story by MURAKAMI Haruki and featuring
YOO Ah-in,
Steven YEUN and new face
JUN Jong-seo, the film earned the FIPRESCI Prize and the Vulcan Award for the Technical Artist in Cannes. LEE’s last work
Poetry screened at NYFF in 2010.
This year’s 56th New York Film Festival will take place from September 28 to October 14.
