2018 SIWFF Team Receives Record Number of Submissions
Interest in SIWFF continues to grow worldwide as this year’s programming team recorded the festival’s highest number of submissions ever, receiving 957 films from 61 different countries. This number includes 85 entries for the festival’s newly launched International Feature and Korean Feature Competition sections as well as the 516 entries received for SIWFF’s Asian Shorts Competition, which was a 10 percent increase over last year. The festival’s judging committee will reveal this year’s final selections at a future press conference.
The opening ceremony for the 20th
SEOUL International Women’s Film Festival will take place on May 31 in Mapo district’s Oil Tank Culture Park. The park, which opened last fall, is an abandoned oil depot base that has been converted into a stunning cultural space that features an exhibition hall and performance venues.
Founded in 1997, SIWFF has grown to become one of the world’s largest international women’s festivals. Last year’s edition screened 112 films from 37 countries and recorded multiple sell-outs over the course of its six-day run.
