GO GO SISTERS Attracts 290,000 Filmgoers in its Opening Day
Korea’s smash hit
Sunny (2011) works in Vietnam. The Vietnamese version, titled
Go Go Sisters, topped the nation’s box office in its first week of release.
Go Go Sisters is the first title from CJ HK Entertainment, a joint venture between Korean entertainment company
CJ E&M and Vietnamese production company HK Film. According to CJ HK Entertainment, the film attracted 290,000 moviegoers in its first day of release and ruled the box office over its first weekend. It has done more than twice the sales of
Splendid Days, the Vietnamese remake of the Korean romantic fantasy
Miss Granny (2014), during the same period.
Splendid Days currently ranks No. 1 among Korean-Vietnamese film collaborations.
CJ E&M has suggested a new vista for how to produce local movies, beyond exporting completed films or selling copyrights. Versions of
Miss Granny made for countries such as China, Japan, Vietnam, Indonesia
and Thailand earned USD 73.1 million.
Sunny is the second global project of
CJ E&M, following
Miss Granny.
Sunny will also receive remakes in Japan and the United States. The Japanese remake
Sunny: Strong Feelings, Strong Love is set for release on August 31st, while the screenplay for the American version is scheduled to begin casting after completing its scenario with a Hollywood studio.
