  • by Pierce Conran /  Aug 01, 2017
  • 13th JIMFF Tunes in August 10th with DJANGO

The Jecheon International Music & Film Festival is returning for its 13th edition this month, from August 10th to 15th. In addition to its films, music shows and cinema concerts, this year JIMFF will introduce the Jecheon Asia Film Music Honorary Award, which will go to Japanese film composer KAWAI Kenji.

KAWAI is known for his haunting score for the Japanese animation Ghost in the Shell and a number of other modern Japanese classics. He has also worked on the Korean film Antarctic Journal (2005) from director YIM Pil-sung with SONG Kang-ho and YOO Ji-tae. Korean filmmaker HUR Jin-ho, who serves as the Chairman of the Executive Committee of JIMFF, stated that he was honored that KAWAI will be the winner of the festival’s inaugural Jecheon Asia Film Music Honorary Award.

Meanwhile, JIMFF revealed its full program for 2017 as well, which will include 107 works from 34 countries. Opening the festival will be Étienne Comar’s French drama Django, about the guitarist Django Reinhardt.

Seven features will compete in the World Music Film Today where they will vie for a USD 20,000 cash award. The lineup includes a mix of music-centric dramas and documentaries. The winner will be selected by a five-member jury that will be led by Cannes Film Festival Executive Committee Chairman Christian Jeune.
