Busan Film Commission (BFC) is looking for trainees for FLY2017 to foster new filmmakers from Korea and countries of South East Asia. “From June 19th to 30th we will be recruiting trainees, two from each country, for a total of 22 trainees from Korea and the ten countries of ASEAN (Association of South-East Asian Nations)” a spokesperson from BFC, one of the organizers, said in a press release on May 31st.

The ASEAN-ROK Film Leaders Incubator: FLY2017 is one of the ASEAN-ROK cooperation projects organized by the Korean Foreign Ministry. The project aims to find young filmmakers and help them produce various films in Asia. It provides short-filmmaking workshops and mentoring programs to form and expand the network for international coproduction. The program is co-organized by BFC, Busan Asian Film School (AFiS), Association of Indonesian Film Producers (APROFI) and Asian Film Commissions Network (AFCNet). It will be held in Indonesia from December 4th to 17th, 2017.

Anyone interested in filmmaking can apply with these conditions: one of the ten ASEAN member nations, born between 1992 to 2001, experience in directing/producing/filming/production designing/editing/sound at least two short films, documentaries and/or other video works, fluent in English and no experience in any of the programs from Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) and AFiS. The finalists will be unveiled on August 16th. Selected trainees will start online pre-production courses with direction instructors until September 11th and will make their films in Indonesia for 14 days from December 4th to 17th.
