PARK In-jae’s election drama The Mayor with CHOI Min-shik, which opened in a commanding first place in Korea on Wednesday (April 26), has booked a quick North American bow, with distributor Well Go USA releasing the film in 28 locations across the United State and Canada starting on Friday, April 28th.

Old Boy (2003) and Roaring Currents (2014) star CHOI features as the Mayor of Seoul who is running for office a third time. Co-starring with the veteran are THE WAILING’s KWAK Do-won, SHIM Eun-kyoung of Miss Granny (2014) and MOON So-ri (Oasis, 2002). Also in the cast is LEE Ki-hong of The Maze Runner YA franchise and Netflix show The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt in his first Korean role.

Director PARK debuted in 2011 with the media thriller Moby Dick, starring HWANG Jung-min. The Mayor, which was financed and is being distributed in Korea by Showbox, is PARK’s second film. The film opened with 186,000 admissions (USD 984,000) on Wednesday, scooping up 45% of sales.
