  • Korea Indie and Expat Film Festival Gears up for 1st Edition
  • by Pierce Conran /  Jun 11, 2015
  • 9 Features to Duke It Out in Inaugural Competition

Positioning itself as the first film festival by and for expats, the Korea Indie and Expat Film Festival (KIXFF) is getting ready to kick off its very first edition on June 18th. Selected among 150 submissions hailing from 20 countries, the event will screen nine features and 38 shorts until it concludes on the 21st.

The festival, which will hold its opening and closing screenings in Indie Space at Seoul Cinema, is an event put on by expat filmmakers in Korea and the Seoul Players theater group that will take place in various locales around the expat-friendly Itaewon neighborhood at the base of Namsan Mountain and in the shadow of Seoul Tower.

The nine features are broken up into three categories: films made by expatriates around the world; ‘no-budget’ films; and Korean works with a multi-cultural bent. Meanwhile, the shorts are broken up into seven packets: Korean Showcase; Midnight Movies; International-Showcase; International-No-Budget; Expat-International Showcase; Expat-International Documentaries; and Expat-Local Filmmakers.

Beyond the films, visitors will also have a chance to take part in a producer’s workshop with venerable producer LEE Joon-dong, responsible for the works of brother LEE Chang-dong and A Girl at My Door, among others, as well as other events and parties.
