Korean Films in Documentary and World Fiction Competitions
In the runup to its upcoming 21st edition, the LA Film Fest revealed its program this week, which will feature a pari of Korean films vying in separate competitions.
Following its debut as the opening film of the Nara International Film Festival (for which it was commissioned),
JANG Kun-jae’s third feature
A Midsummer’s Fantasia will take part in the World Fiction Competition in Los Angeles. The Korea-Japan co-production, which was produced by Japanese cineaste KAWASE Naomi, has also screened in the Busan, Göteborg, Rotterdam and Hong Kong International Film Festivals.
Screening in the Documentary Competition will be
JIN Mo-young’s smash hit
My Love, Don’t Cross that River. The tale of a couple at the end of their 76-year marriage, the film attracted over 4.8 million admissions, becoming the most successful independent release to ever screen in Korea. The doc debut at the
DMZ International Documentary Festival and was also invited to the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Film Festival.
The 21st LA Film Fest will take place over June 10th to 18th.
