Four Korean Films Play at the 21st International Festival of Asian Cinema Vesoul
The 21st International Festival of Asian Cinema Vesoul (Festival International des Cinemas d’Asie) has invited four Korean films and a Nepalese film about Korea’s Han River.
In the Breathless section, three Korean films that have already travelled to major film festivals were selected once again. The older title
Pluto (2013), winner of many domestic and international awards
Han Gong-ju, and the Cannes-selected,
A Girl at My Door form the trio. All films received domestic and international acclaim and deal with social issues currently facing Korea.
The only Korean film in competition is
A Matter of Interpretation, directed by
LEE Kwang-kuk, starring
YU Jun-sang of
Nobody’s Daughter Haewon (2013). In this indie film, LEE crosses the line between reality and fantasy through an actress who is lost between pursuing her dreams and coping with real-world.
A Matter of Interpretation is programmed in Contemporary Asian Cinema: International Competition Section.
Another film to take note of at the festival is Oh Han River, Heed My Story by Nepalese director Ashok Thapa Magar. Programmed in the Documentary Competition, this film looks at the lives of migrant workers in Korea as they tell their stories along the flowing life of Korea, the Han River.
The festival which started on the 10th of February, will close its curtains tomorrow, February 17th.
