U.S. Title Set as The Admiral
Roaring Currents will open throughout U.S. on August 15, Korea’s Independence Day in 2014. “
Roaring Currents premiered on a single screen at CGV LA on August 8th. The number of screens will expand to 30 by August 15th,” said a spokesperson at
CJ Entertainment. Its title for the U.S. release was decided as
The Admiral to lead people to have more interest in the character. Its overseas poster is characterized by a close-up image of actor
CHOI Min-shik who played Admiral YI, one of Korea’s national heroes.
Prior to the U.S. release, the Korean Cultural Center in LA held a preview of the film at CGV LA for locals such as professors at leading film schools and those who work in the film industry in the U.S.
Roaring Currents recorded 10 million admissions after 12 days since its premiere, the fastest to hit the figure in the history of Korean cinema. The film is expected to break the record of 13.62 million audiences in total held by
Avatar this week. Overseas Korean residents are paying much attention to this film for its remarkable box office performances in Korea. The U.S. release of
Roaring Currents will proceed on a small scale for Korean residents in the U.S., unlike a global premiere system used for
Snowpiercer. However, the number of screens may increase depending on its popularity.
