  • KOFFIA Expands for 5th Edition

  • Korean Film Festival in Australia Books 19 Features
     
    Having already expanded to three cities in recent years, the Korean Film Festival in Australia (KOFFIA) is expanding its roadshow to an another trio of towns for its upcoming 5th edition. In addition to Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, KOFFIA will now also take place in Canberra, Perth and Adelaide. This year, the festival will screen 19 recent Korean features and selection of short films.
     
    Opening this year’s festivities will be the thriller Cold Eyes, starring SEOL Kyung-gu, JUNG Woo-sung and HAN Hyo-joo. The runaway hit scored 5.5 million admissions during its domestic release last July and received a gala presentation at the Toronto International Film Festival. Closing the festival will be LEE Joon-ik’s tearjerker Hope, also starring SEOL Kyung-gu, alongside UHM Ji-won.
     
    Beyond Cold Eyes, other thrillers on offer this year include Commitment, The Terror, LIVE, New World, Hide and Seek and The Suspect. The festival will also present a number of comedies such as Fasten Your Seatbelt, Secretly Greatly, Miss Granny and Hot Young Bloods as well as the dramas Thread of Lies, Top Star and Rough Play. In addition, KOFFIA will also explore other sides of Korean cinema, including documentaries (Norah Noh), indies (The Dinner), romance (Very Ordinary Couple), women’s films (Venus Talk) and animation (The Satellite Girl and Milk Cow). Participating for a special Q&A sessions following his directorial debut Top Star will Korean screen icon PARK Joong-hoon.
     
    This year’s KOFFIA will kick off with its main run in Sydney on August 13th for eight days before touring around Australia and ending in Adelaide on September 26th. KOFFIA is presented by the Korean Cultural Office Australia (KCCA) and Samsung with support from the Australian and Korean government, including the Korean Film Council (KOFIC).
