  • EBS International Documentary Film Festival Gears Up

The EBS International Documentary Film Festival (EIDF) is set to get underway this coming Friday (October 18th) and run until the 25th. This year’s edition, which will screen 97 features, will sport the theme “Truth, Let It Be Heard.” Opening the festival will be a collection of documentarian Eva Weber’s works, including Black Out, Night, Peace, The Solitary Life of Crane and Steel Homes.

Invited films will be broken down into various categories, such ‘Festival Choice,’ ‘Family & Education,’ City & Architecture,’ ‘Technology & Civilization,’ ‘Music Docs’ and ‘Short Docs.’ The ‘Korean Docs Panorama’ will feature recent local docs such as Captain Kang, Here Comes Uncle Joe, Planet of Snail, Bittersweet Joke and My Father’s E-mails. A special exhibition on Leonard Retel Helmrich will also be held.

The non-fiction festival was launched by EBS (the Educational Broadcasting System), a Korean educational TV and radio network, in 2004 and is this year celebrating its 10th edition. What sets EIDF apart from other documentary festivals is that films are screened both in theaters and on EBS’ TV channel. This year, 43 films will air on television while the other 54 will be available in cinemas.
