The Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival recently revealed the program for its upcoming 29th edition, which will take place from May 2nd to 12th. A pair of Korean films – one from the South, one from the North – are included in the lineup.
O Muel’s lyrical Jeju massacre film
Jiseul will be screening at the festival following a slew of other selections in recent months. The critical darling premiered at the
Busan International Film Festival, where it won four awards, before clinching the top prize in the World Dramatic Competition of this year’s Sundance Film Festival.
Joining it will be the Belgium/UK/North Korea co-production Comrade Kim Goes Flying, which was shot in Pyongyang. The film deals with a coal miner who dreams of becoming a trapeze artist and it had its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. It was later screened in Busan, Taipei and Rotterdam among many other events.
