CJ E&M, Korea’s largest entertainment content provider, has partnered with streaming website DramaFever, now a subsidiary of Warner Bros., for a three-year contract that will see the Internet exhibitor team up with CJ’s drama production arm Studio Dragon to co-produce original series intended for global audiences.

The move follows recent announcement by Internet giants Amazon and Netflix concerning new content with a focus on the K-pop world. The deal will encompass two series over the next three years and will also explore potential remakes of established films and TV properties.

Jinnie CHOI, the President of Studio Dragon, stated that “Studio Dragon is determined to become Asia’s No. 1 drama studio, and in order to reach the goal, we plan to work with industry leaders home and abroad to provide unrivaled content for audience.” CHOI went on to state that "the latest deal was reached as Studio Dragon sought ways to expand its audience beyond Korea, by working closely with OTT service providers that have the knowledge of global demand for Korean dramas and operate video-streaming platforms.”

Prior to this deal, CJ and DramaFever have already partner together to exclusively present several titles from the former on the latter’s streaming platform to global audiences.

Craig Hunegs, the President of Business and Strategy, Warner Bros. Television Group, announced the agreement at the Broadcast World Wide convention in Seoul last week.
