  • 9. Korean Actors Become Active Abroad

    As well as Korean directors, Korean actors and actresses started becoming active overseas. LEE Byung-hun cemented his status in Hollywood by appearing in G.I. Joe: Retaliation and Red 2. LEE walked the red carpet at the London Korean Film Festival with director Dean PARISOT and actors Bruce WILLIS, John MALKOVICH and Helen MIRREN who were all shooting with him and received huge responses.

    BAE Doo-na appeared in a role of considerable importance in Cloud Atlas directed by the WACHOWSKI siblings and Tom TYKWER, confirming the high status of Korean actors abroad. BAE appeared in the promotion events for the film along with the three directors of the film and received a high level of media attention when the directors praised BAE for her great acting.

    SONG Hye-kyo appeared in Wang Kar wai’s The Grandmaster which will open the Berlin International Film Festival next year. AHN Sung-ki and PARK Si-yeon appeared in the co-production between the U.S. and Korea called The Last Knights, which also stars Morgan Freeman and Clive Owen. KWON Sang-woo appeared in 12 Chinese Zodiac Heads written, directed and starring Jackie CHAN, thereby expanding his stage to China and other countries.
