  • KOFIC Completed Recruitment of Leadership Committee

The new secretary-general of the Korean Film Council (KOFIC) was appointed. On January 15th, KOFIC announced it had elected CHO Jong-guk as its new secretary-general. Secretary-general CHO Jong-guk was picked for this position after a second board screening that took place on January 12th. The nine-member committee, which included new chairman OH Seok-geun who started his position on January 5th, held discussions on CHO Jong-guk who ultimately would receive the most votes. He was officially appointed on the 15th.

Secretary-general CHO Jong-guk previously worked as a journalist at ‘Screen’, and ‘cine 21’. He was also the CEO of JoWoo Films as well as the director of planning at the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF). When current chairman OH Seok-geun worked as the chairman of BIFF, CHO Jong-guk also worked as the secretary-general. During his recent post at cine21, he wrote columns on topics such as the situation surrounding BIFF, as well as other major film news.

KOFIC stated, "The chairman, board members, and now the secretary-general’s seats have been filled after a long vacancy. We have completed our recruitment and we’ll do our best to focus on mending people’s trust in us, as well as reforming the organization and finding an innovative way to run our businesses.
