  • The Korean Film Boom-Up Event at Toronto International Film Festival
  • by June KIM /  Mar 25, 2014
  • Seoul Selected as TIFF's City to City
The Korean Film Council (KOFIC) will be attending the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) from September 4th to the 14th this year in line for a very special program focused on Korean films. TIFF announced on March 25th that their City to City program which focuses on a different city to spotlight every year has chosen Seoul for 2014. This will be a great opportunity to expose Korean films at the largest film festival in North America and KOFIC will be organizing Korean Film Boom-Up Events alongside the Festival’s programming.

“Seoul is one of the most exciting cities on the planet, and you can feel that energy in its films," said TIFF’s Artistic Director, Cameron Bailey. "South Korea's capital continues to produce consistently strong cinema, from art house to commercial. Seoul's best auteurs win major festival awards, while its genre masters are sought after in Hollywood and its actors have won fans all across Asia. This year we want to introduce our audience to Seoul's next generation. We are lucky to be based in Toronto, home to one of the most ardent audiences for Korean cinema.”

This will be the biggest representation of Korean cinema in TIFF’s history. With much anticipation, KOFIC is looking forward to providing support for the Korean films and filmmakers in providing networking opportunities with the film industry delegates worldwide. KOFIC is hoping to organize an industry session on Korean films and also hold the ‘Korean Film Night’ reception. The Korean Film Boom-Up Event in Toronto IFF will further promote the development of the Korean film industry.
