The Special Committee for the Sustainable Development of Korean Cinema (co-chaired by Han Sang-jun and Kim Jho Gwangsoo; hereafter "the Special Committee") announced that it will hold a public hearing on audiovisual content governance on Tuesday, September 22, at 2:00 p.m. in Theater 1 of Cinematheque KOFA at the Korean Film Archive.

Held under the theme "Rethinking Governance for Film, Drama and Series in the Platform Era," the hearing has been organized to examine the audiovisual content industry as it shifts toward a platform-centered environment, and to hear views from the field on the direction policy and governance should take in response.

In Part 1, Lee Sung-min, associate professor in the Department of Media Studies at Korea National Open University, will speak on how the government's policy governance for film and audiovisual content has been changing, and Cho Young-shin, head of C&X Media & Entertainment Research Institute, will speak on the converging audiovisual content market of the platform era and survival strategies for the industry.

Part 2 features a panel discussion with seven experts working in the film, broadcasting and platform sectors: Kang Ho-jun, chairman of the Korean Independent PD Association; Ye Jin-hae, senior manager on the Global Affairs team at Netflix Korea; Oh Kwang-hee, CEO of CJ ENM Studios; Oh Ki-je, head of the content business division at KT Studio Genie; Won Seung-hwan, director of Indiespace; Lee Dong-ha, president of the Producers Guild of Korea (PGK); and film director Lee Eon-hee (listed in Korean alphabetical order). A Q&A session will follow the panel discussion, giving audience members the chance to engage directly with the presenters and panelists.

The hearing is the first public event held by the Special Committee since its launch on September 1. It is expected to serve as an occasion for gathering a range of views from the field and exploring workable policy alternatives for building a virtuous-cycle ecosystem in the audiovisual industry.

The hearing is open to all, and no advance registration is required to attend in person. Journalists wishing to cover the event, however, must apply through a separate advance registration link by 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 20.
