- Held at 25 small cinemas nationwide under the concept "Our Neighborhood's Go-To Cinema"- 91 films to screen for free, with tie-in programs including cine-talks and film score concertsThe Korean Film Council (KOFIC; Chairperson Han Sang-jun) will hold the "2026 Small Cinema Collection" (the "Collection") at 25 small cinemas across the country, opening September 1 at Hallim Small Cinema in Jeju.
This year's Collection is built around the concept "Our Neighborhood's Go-To Cinema," designed to let audiences revisit beloved films at their local theaters. It will present 91 films in total, centered on Korean films that captured widespread affection in the 2000s, including Ode to My Father, Miracle in Cell No. 7, and One Fine Spring Day. Notably, in partnership with the Korea Animation Producers Association (KAPA) and the Seoul Indie-AniFest, the program will also feature a range of domestic feature-length and short animated films.
The Collection will run from September through November across 25 small cinemas in nine regions nationwide — Gangwon, North and South Gyeongsang, North and South Jeolla, North and South Chungcheong, Jeju, and Ulsan — with admission free of charge throughout. Of these, 14 theaters will also run region-specific programs tied to the screenings.
At Hallim Small Cinema, a cine-talk spotlighting the filmography of actor Ahn Sung-ki will be held on September 5, while Buan Masil Cinema will host a concert on October 17 reinterpreting Ennio Morricone's celebrated scores through a string ensemble. Additional programming spanning generations and tastes includes conversations with directors, film score concerts, hands-on generative AI production experiences, and animation-principle education and dubbing experiences for children.
KOFIC's Fair Growth Center said, "The Small Cinema Collection is a project that supports audiences in regions with limited film infrastructure in encountering diverse films and experiencing cinemas as local cultural spaces," adding, "This year we have expanded to 25 theaters to reach even more audiences up close."
Screening schedules and information on participating theaters for the "2026 Small Cinema Collection" are available on the official website.
