Korean Cinema Share Takes a Big Jump to 68.3% after a Deep Plunge
Korean cinema flew high again after a big plunge. In the first half in 2015 the Korean cinema share was a record low of 42.5% in 7 years since 38.6% in the first half in 2008. However in July
Assassination arrived. And in August
Veteran came as well. During the period of August 1st through 31st the Korean cinema share jumped high to 68.3%.
The Korean cinema share in 2015 started at 62.4% which was significantly high. However this big number owed a lot to the great performance of one single film,
Ode to My Father. The share percentage constantly went down until it finally hit 25.6% in April.
Still with thirty something percent of share in May and June, a rebound finally came towards the end of the latter month.
Northern Limit Line, released on June 24th, single handedly attracted 6 million viewers and the Korean cinema share kept being pushed by
Assassination and
Veteran until it hit 68.3% in August when both the latter films hit 10 million viewers.
Now the hollywood blockbuster season is over. With
The Throne and
The Long Way Home to be released in September, the Korean film share will go through another big change. It remains to be seen whether for the better or worse.
