  • Four Hollywood Blockbusters Sweep Korean Theaters
  • by LEE Yu-jin /  May 28, 2015
  • Word of Mouth Leads to Hot Ticket Sales

Word of mouth has done it. Mad Max: Fury Road ruled the Korean box office within two weeks of its release. Adding 672,764 more admissions over the weekend, the film has a cumulative count of 1,839,746, pushing aside last week’s box office number one, The Chronicles of Evil.

Following successful runs of Kingsman: The Secret Agent, Fast & Furious 7, and Avengers: Age of Ultron, it seems like Hollywood blockbusters are having a relay of good runs. With fast spreading word of mouth, Mad Max: Fury Road is standing at the top of the presales chart at 29.58% in ticket share, and it is likely the sales will grow even more.

Right behind the return of the Mad Max series after 30 years, Spy is running closely behind. With a combination of action, thriller and comedy in one, Melissa Mccarthy, Jude Law and Jason Statham put on an entertaining performance. The word around the street is that the “Spy is as enjoyable an action film as Kingsman: The Secret Agent.” For its opening weekend it brought in 560,817 audiences with a cumulative total of 649,354, the best performance between new releases. Presales are also close behind Mad Max with 24%, predicting a promising run for the two titles.
