  • The 10 Highest-Grossing Disney Movies in Korea

Walt Disney is the most powerful film studio in the world. According to the Korean Film Council (KOFIC) biannual report on the Korean film industry for the first six months of 2018, Disney is having a strong run so far this year. During the half-year period, The Walt Disney Company Korea has distributed six films, including Avengers: Infinity War, Black Panther, and Coco. The company ranked first in the local distribution market, recording 20.34 million moviegoers and a 21.1% market share. Meanwhile, CJ ENM, which was the best performing distributor last year, has put out nine films to attract 14.9 million moviegoers and earn USD 107.2 million, making it the second best local distributor with a total market share of 15.5% for the first half of this year. In July, Disney maintained the lead in Korea with Incredibles 2 and Ant-Man and the Wasp currently topping the box office. The former collected 1,364,725 moviegoers in first days of release, while the latter attracted 5,203,093 moviegoers in three weeks, easily entering the top 10 for most watched Disney films of all time in Korea. The most watched Disney movie in Korea remains Avengers: Infinity War. This super-hero film is the second biggest foreign box office hit in the country with 11,209,831 moviegoers (the first being Avatar). Along with Walt Disney’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron and Frozen, it sold more than 10 million tickets.
