  • War of May Begins
  • by KIM Hyun-jung /  Apr 11, 2017
  • Contenders for the Golden Week Box Office

Twelve-day-long holidays begin from April 29th and last to May 9th, because there are May Day, Children’s Day, Buddha’s Birthday and the presidential election. Although May 2nd, 4th and 8th are not days off, a lot of companies and schools will be closed in this weekdays interspersed with holidays.

It will be one of the peak seasons in the nation’s theaters. Korean films with expectations and Hollywood blockbusters as well as animations for Children’s Day are set to go.

Two local films will come head to head on April 26th: comedy The King’s Case Note, good for “Family Month”, and election drama The Mayor which has an unexpected benefit of the early presidential election. LEE Sun-kyun and CHOI Min-shik are starring in the films, respectively. On April 27th and 28th of the same week, Tobot: Attack of the Robot Army which is based on popular animated series in Korea and Smurfs: The Lost Village, the traditional strong, will entice children.

Warriors on May 3rd are tough, too. Blockbuster Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 returning in three years, comedy-thriller The Sheriff in Town starring dramatic actors like LEE Sung-min, CHO Jin-woong and KIM Sung-kyun and Korean animation Super White Bear: Spy Adventures are waiting for audiences. We might spend all of our holidays in a theater.
