He made his directing debut soon after with <Harmony> (2010), a drama revolving around a choral group of women prisoners that opened in the 2010 Lunar New Year holiday to 3 million admissions. After working as first assistant director on the indie <Cafe Noir> (2010), he took part in the screenwriting for the hit drama <The Himalayas> (2015) and the buddy cop film <Confidential Assignment> (2017), both of which filled 7.8 million seats upon their release. KANG provided some relief to Korea’s cinemas severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 when he released his sophomore film <Pawn> (2020), which managed to score in excess of a million admissions during the Chuseok holiday season.
