  • Pre-sales to more than 20 countries after the screening of Pieta

Pieta, released in Korea amidst world-wide attention, was screened at the competition section of the 69th Venice Film Festival and is being sold to a number of countries for distribution. Influential film industry source Screen Daily has featured the film's sales as a main article on its website, one of many media outlets paying close attention to the film.

According to Finecut, the international distributor for Pieta, it now has contracts with Russia's Mywin Films, the distributor for Old Boy, I Saw The Devil, and Elbowroom, Norway's AS Fidalgo, the distributor for A Brand New Life and The Housemaid, Turkey's Bir Film, who distributed 3-Iron, Time, and Elbowroom, Hong Kong's Edko Film, previous buyers of Poetry, Old Boy and 3-Iron, and Greece's Ama Films, importers of Old Boy and Samaritan Girl. Most distributors are planning on releasing the film early next year.

Meanwhile, Pieta is set to be released in Italy on September 14th, right after its Korean release. This will be followed by a German release. German distributor MFA+Film, who bought Pieta during the 65th Cannes International Film Festival before even seeing its official screening, is planning on releasing the film after its official screening at the 20th Hamburg Film Festival, being held from September 27th to October 6th.

Director KIM Ki-duk has already gained notoriety at this festival by being awarded its Douglas Sirk Award. Finecut also added that the film is expected to increase sales after the announcement of its invitation to the Masters section of the 37th Toronto International Film Festival, with purchase queries coming from countries like France, Spain and USA.
