In its 2nd week of release, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness topped the box office in a row in the 2nd week of May. During the 2nd week of its release from May 13 to 15, Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness attracted 838,967 audiences with sales of USD 7.1 million. Accounting for 71.5% of the weekend sales, the film enjoys the overwhelming No. 1 box office hit. With 4,906,590 viewers and USD 40.7 million in total so far, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is expected to exceed the total number of viewers of Doctor Strange (2016), the previous episode that recorded 5.44 million viewers in total.

The Roundup, which is scheduled to be released on May 18, ranked second in the weekend box office with 171,000 weekend viewers through its pre-screening only. The film is a sequel to THE OUTLAWS, which caused a stir in the Chuseok theater district in October 2017, and Don Lee returns as the main character ‘Detective Ma Seokdo,’ following the first episode, and Actor Son Sukku plays a new villain in the sequel, attracting a lot of attention. The sales rate exceeded 61% with continuous favorable reviews after the press preview. As of the 16th, this is more than double the sales rate of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (27%), proving the audience's keen interest in the new Korean film.

The Bad Guys, the animation of DreamWorks Pictures, is ranked 3rd, one step down from the previous week. The Korean film, I want to know your parents, released on April 27, secured 4th over the weekend. The Japanese animation, Butt Detective the Movie: The Secret of Souffle Island, is ranked 5th.

The new films released in the second week of May weren’t very successful at the box office hit. Operation Mincemeat, a war blockbuster set in World War II, is ranked 7th with 13,366 viewers on its opening weekend. UMMA, ‘a Hollywood horror with Korean sentiment’ starring Sandra Oh, is ranked 8th with 10,417 weekend viewers.

While Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is leading the box office hit in Korea, the number of weekend moviegoers also exceeded 1 million. In the 3rd week of May, attention is focused on the box office battle between the global box office hit Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and the Korean film The Roundup.
