BLACK MONEY Tops Korean Film Producers Association Awards

CHO Jin-woong and KIM Hee-ae Take Acting Honors at KFPAs
 

CHUNG Ji-young’s BLACK MONEY (2019) took home the top prize from this year’s 7th Korean Film Producers Association (KFPA) Awards. The film also triumphed in the Best Actor category, won by CHO Jin-woong. KIM Hee-ae earned the Best Actress prize for her role in LIM Dae-hyung’s drama Moonlit Winter (2019).

Best Director was won by WOO Min-ho for his political drama The Man Standing Next, which also took home Best Art Design for CHO Hwa-sung and PARK Gyu-bin. The Best Screenplay prize went to KIM Cho-hee for her debut Lucky Chan-sil (2019), which also won a Best Supporting Actress accolade for YOUN Yuh-jung. The Best Supporting Actor Award went to SHIN Jung-geun for the geopolitical action-drama Steel Rain2: Summit.

HONG Won-chan’s Action noir DELIVER US FROM EVIL, the most successful film released during the pandemic to date, earned two technical prizes - for Best Cinematography (HONG Kyeong-pyo) and Best Lighting (PARK Il-hyeok). YEON Sang-ho’s zombie blockbuster Peninsula also took home two prizes, winning Best Sound (KIM Suk-won) and the Technical Award (JUNG Do-ahn and YOON Hyoung-tae).

Meanwhile Best Music went to KIM Tae-seong for the searing women’s drama KIM JI-YOUNG, BORN 1982 (2019) and HAN Mi-yeon won the Best Editing Prize for the noir thriller BEASTS CLAWING AT STRAWS.

Judges for this year’s event chose from among 162 feature films that were released between October 1, 2019 and September 30 this year.
