KOFIC Report on November 2015 Korean Film Industry

THE PRIESTS and INSIDE MEN Boost Korean Film Share to 69.5%
 
 
Last November, The Priests and Inside Men, were the favorites among the domestic film audience. According to the November monthly report on Korean film industry by Korean Film Council (KOFIC), the domestic film share last month was 69.5% and the foreign film share was 30.5%. Here, The Priests and Inside Men are known to have played a crucial role.
 
The total number of viewers in November was 15.28 million, of which 10.41 million chose Korean films. Compared to the same period last year, the total number of viewers has increased by 90,000 (0.6%), and the number of Korean film viewers increased by 7.16 million. Such a big change owes to the great performance of The Priests and Inside Men.
 
 
In November, The Priests, released on November 5th, had 4.93 million admissions, and Inside Men, released on November 19th, attracted 3.75 million viewers, together monopolizing 83% of the domestic film share. Besides, FATAL INTUITION, YOU CALL IT PASSION, The Phone and THE SOUND OF A FLOWER were also ranked in the lower part of the box office chart.

However, foreign films only had 4.86 million admissions in November. Compared to the same period last year, the total number of viewers decreased by 7.08 million from 11.94 million, and the sales sharply dropped to USD 32 million. Globally popular films like Spectre and Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2 were released in November but did not reach expected performance. Spectre, released on November 11th, received 1.79 million admissions in November (1.82 million accumulated admissions), and Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2, released on November 18th, had 0.69 million admissions (0.8 million accumulated admissions), reaching the two highest ranks in the foreign box office chart. The Martian, released on October 8th, attracted 0.52 million viewers in November (4.3 million accumulated admissions), ranking at the 6th place in the overall (comprising both domestic and foreign) box office chart.
