JI Chang-wook, born in 1987, graduated from Dankook University in theatre and film. When he was in school, he took part in many musicals and short movies. He debuted his acting career in 2008 with a supporting role in a segment of film anthology <Sleeping Beauty> (2008), before making his first appearance on television with family melodrama series <My Too Perfect Sons> (2009) and on the stage with musical <Thrill Me> (2010). He was first noticed for his performance in the title role of <Smile, Dong-Hae> (2010-2011), with which he would become so associated that he later joked that he should change his name to Dong-hae. After playing in horror film <Death Bell 2 : Bloody Camp> (2010), he landed another lead role in <Warrior Baek Dong-soo> (2011) and gained a lot of notoriety starring in melodrama series <Smile Again> (2011). Critically acclaimed historical drama series <Empress Ki> (2013-2014) and action-thriller series <Healer> (2014-2015) brought him new fans overseas, especially in China, which led him to be cast as the male lead in Chinese martial arts melodrama series <The Whirlwind Girl 2> (2016). Also in 2016, he was given his first big screen featuring role in the crime-action film <Fabricated City>.
