JANG Young-hwan majored in film, but took some time off during his sophomore year to work as a production assistant on <Fun Movie> (2002) and <Addicted> (2002). It was while working on <Blood Rain> (2004) that he became sure that his right place was not in directing but in production. He climbed up to the position of unit production manager with <To Sir, With Love> (2006), and later to line producer with <An Ethics Lesson> (2012). He received his first credit as a full-fledged producer in <Fabricated City> (2016). Having also helmed the production of the CJ Entertainment-backed historical drama <1987: When the Day Comes> (2017), which found success both critically and commercially, JANG was recommended by the film studio for another film it financed, BONG Joon-ho’s <PARASITE> (2019), The film benefitted from a budget that allowed, among other, for the production team to create a complete section of a typical Korean backstreet as well as a luxurious villa where most of the action takes place. JANG became one of the most sought-after Korean producers since <PARASITE> won the most coveted film award of all, Cannes’ Palme d’Or.
