HWANG Qu-dok’s directorial debut, <Our Class Accepts Anyone Regardless of Grade>(1989), was a critique on the reality of grade-oriented, college placement-oriented education system of Korea. The movie, which depicts a teacher’s attempt to change the reality of education to no avail in the end, was also the debut film for [MOON Sung-keun]. A member of the first class of [Korean Academy of Film Arts] that produced many talents in the 1980s, HWANG honed his directing skills under [IM Kwon-taek] and [PARK Kwang-su]. Although his subsequent films were not as successful as his debut film, he came back with <Chulsoo & Younghee>(2003) and <For Eternal Hearts>(2007), which was selected as the opening film at the year’s [Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival]. He was a professor at [Korean Academy of Film Arts] and now at Myongji University.
