HAN Myeong-hwan majored in sound design at the Film Department of Dongguk University and joined Wave Lab in 2003, – hired by his teacher and the company’s president LEE Sung-jin. As one of the third generation sound supervisors in the contemporary Korean film industry, HAN started to work in dialogue editing and ADR recording for a few years in the early 2000s. As one of few key creative personnel of Wave Lab, HAN was attached to a lot of major motion pictures as a re-recording mixer since 2005, including LEE Byung-hun starring melodrama <Once in a Summer> (2006) and HAN Seok-kyu starring historical melodrama <Forbidden Quest> (2006). After many years of experience as a re-recording mixer, he was credited as a sound supervisor for major feature films later on, since the comedy <The Bank Attack> (2007) and the queer comedy <Two Weddings and a Funeral> (2010). Since 2011, HAN has taken care of more large scale films as a sound supervisor. One of memorable works by HAN includes Director HWANG Dong-hyuk’s second feature <Silenced> (2011), which turned out to be a box office hit with a controversial story set in a school for the hearing impaired. He says that a good sound design requires reflecting bottom lines of the film, and not to exaggerate sound elements.
