Jeon Bae-soo, born in 1970, resolved early on that he would be an actor so he could make proud his grandmother, who raised him alone after the divorce of his parents. At the age of 18, he moved to Seoul and started performing with Samil-ro Chango Theater, a company known for being one of the pioneers of the “small theater” movement. Later, he was part of the cast for Hakchon Theater’s sensational hit <Subway Line 1>, a Korean adaptation of the hit German musical <Linie 1>. After making his screen debut in the 2004 youth drama series <You Will Know>, Jeon landed his first film role in the melodrama <Lost In Love> (2006). Out of gratitude for its director, Choo Changmin, Jeon made the promise that he would gladly accept any role the filmmaker would offer him in the future. But after his grandmother passed away, filled with doubts about his career, Jeon decided to take a break and went to New Zealand on a working holiday visa. One day in 2007, he was offered the lead role in stage production <Liar 3>, and although it wasn’t a popular success, he was so immersed in his role and had so much fun interpreting it that it convinced him to resume his career. Fulfilling his promise, Jeon appeared in Choo’s subsequent works, including hits like <Late Blossom> (2010) and the award-winning royal court drama <Masquerade> (2012). He was then cast in the crime drama <Gangnam Blues> (2014), and Director Lee Seokhoon, who he had previously met on the set for <The Pirates> (2014), offered him the role of a member of the expedition team in <The Himalayas> (2015). Next for Jeon were further supporting credits in hits such as <A Violent Prosecutor> (2015), Na Hongjin’s Cannes-invited <THE WAILING> (2016), Kim Jeewoon’s <The Age of Shadows> (2016) and Ryoo Seungwan’s <The Battleship Island> (2017). In 2018, he could be seen in the sleeper hit romance <On Your Wedding Day> (2017) and the financial crisis-themed drama <Default> (2018). After playing support in <Oh! My Gran> (2020), he was back on the big screen in early 2022 with the political thriller <Kingmaker> (2020).
