Born in 1973, LEE Seung-jun learned acting in the theatre department of the Seoul Institute of the Arts. He made his official debut on stage in 1996, playing top-billing in the Korean play <John Went to Hell>, and performed with the companies Inhyeok and Golmokil Theater, with notable credits in Korean adaptations of <Death of a Salesman> and <Othello>. After a first screen appearance in the short film <Falling season> (2001), LEE was offered bit parts in <Blue> (2003) and <The First Amendment> (2003), before receiving more important roles in <Handphone> (2008) and <Heartbeat> (2010). After playing one of the Qing soldiers led by RYU Seung-ryong in the period epic <War of the Arrows> (2011), LEE could be seen in YIM Pil-sung segment of the social science fiction anthology <Doomsday Book> (2011). In 2013, he portrayed Capitain Ahn, who served under national hero admiral YI Sun-sin, in the war epic <Roaring Currents> (2013), which is still to this day the most-watched Korean film of all time. After that, he became a regular presence on television and managed to find his way into the cast of sensational hits such as the office drama <Misaeng: Incomplete Life> (2014), romcom <Hyde Jekyll, Me> (2015) and international hit <Descendants of the Sun> (2016). More recently, he was seen playing the part of the last king of Joseon to great acclaim in the early-20th century set series <Mr. Sunshine> (2018) and participated in <The Divine Fury> (2019).
