Although he appeared in a number of prominent Korean films over the next decade, including war horror <R – Point> (2004), royal court drama <Hwang Jin Yi> (2007) and petrol-headed action <Quick> (2011), KIM only attained wider recognition in 2016 when he played the immediate superior of the male lead in the TV drama series <Descendants of the Sun>, which was a smash hit throughout East-Asia. Not long after, he made a strong impression again in another successful TV series, <Guardian: The Lonely and Great God> (2016-2017). His career reached a turning point at the end of 2018 when he was finally given a lead role in the drama series <Sky Castle> (2018-2019), which went on to become the highest-rated TV series on Korean cable television (with 23.8%).
