HOUSE OF HUMMINGBIRD Triumphs at 29th Buil Film Awards

LEE Byung-hun and JUNG Yu-mi Take Home Main Acting Trophies
 

This year’s 29th Buil Film Awards took place as usual during the first weekend of the Busan International Film Festival. KIM Bora’s House of Hummingbird (2019), which debuted at the festival two years earlier, returned to Busan to claim the Best Film Award at the event, which was staged by the Busan Ilbo newspaper and took place at the Busan Dream Theatre without a live audience, in order to stem the spread of COVID-19. Director KIM also picked up the prize for Best Screenplay.

LEE Byung-hun earned another Best Actor trophy for his role in WOO Min-ho’s The Man Standing Next, which also saw LEE Hee-jun take home the Best Supporting Actor award. JUNG Yu-mi was crowned Best Actress for KIM JI-YOUNG, BORN 1982 (2019), having swept up the same prize at several other awards this year. Young actress LEE Re picked up Best Supporting Actress for the blockbuster Peninsula

JUNG Ji-woo picked up the Best Director Award for his melodrama Tune in for Love (2019), which also came away with the Best Music prize. HONG Won-chan’s action-thriller hit DELIVER US FROM EVIL triumphed in the technical categories, picking upon awards for Best Cinematography and Best Art Direction. 

Among fresh names, KIM Dae-gun of Clean Up (2019) received the Best New Actor, Best New Actress went to the GANG Mal-geum for her role in Lucky Chan-sil and Tiny Light filmmaker CHO Min-jae picked up Best New Director.

Other awards included the YU Hyun-mok Film Arts Award, which went to Cinema Dal founder KIM Il-kwon, and a brace of Popular Star Awards for GANG Dong-won (Peninsula) and SEO Yea-ji (By Quantum Physics: A Nightlife Venture, 2019).
