BONG Joon-ho Wins Best Director at Chunsa Film Art Awards

JO Yeo-jeong and JU Ji-hoon Pick Up Top Acting Prizes


BONG Joon-ho’s latest film PARASITE, fresh from its Palme d’Or win at the Cannes Film Festival, was the top prize-winner at this year’s 24th Chunsa Film Art Awards, which took place in Seoul on July 18. The film, which crossed the ten million viewers threshold in Korea later last week, earned four prizes, including the Best Director Award for BONG.

PARASITE stars JO Yeo-jeong and LEE Jung-eun were presented with the Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress accolades, while BONG also picked up the Best Screenplay Award for PARASITE, which he shared with co-writer HAN Jin-won.

Meanwhile, the Best Actor prize went to JU Ji-hoon for the thriller Dark Figure of Crime (2018) while Steven YEUN was awarded the Best Supporting Actor prize for his role in LEE Chang-dong’s BURNING (2018), which was presented at the Cannes Film Festival last year.

The Best New Actress Award was shared by JEON Yeo-been of After My Death (2017) and JIN Ki-joo of Little Forest (2018) while GONG Myoung of Extreme Job took home the Best New Actor Award. Best New Director went to KIM Tae-gyun of Dark Figure of Crime (2018).

LEE Sung-kyoung of Miss & Mrs. Cops and UM Tae-goo of The Great Battle (2018) each received a Special Popularity Award. The Technical Award went to PEE Dae-sung for the special effect makeup of last year’s period action horror-thriller Rampant (2018). Finally, the year’s biggest hit Extreme Job, which is now the second most successful Korean film of all time, was also the recipient of the People’s Choice Most Popular Film Award.
