Fantasia to Welcome 24 Films from Korea

Korea Genre Cinema on Show in Montreal


The Fantasia International Film Festival has now revealed its full program, which will include 24 films from Korea, among them 15 features and nine shorts. The 2019 edition of the festival will open Thursday, July 11 and run until Thursday, August 1.

Beyond the Korean films featured in Fantasia’s first wave of announcements, which included Door Lock (2018), House of Hummingbird (2018), Idol, Maggie (2018), No Mercy, The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil and The Moon in the Hidden Woods (2018), an additional eight features have been added to the lineup.

Among these are LEE Byoung-heon’s comedy Extreme Job, which became the second most successful Korean of all time earlier this year when it welcomed over 16 million viewers. Also screening in Montreal will be popular actor KIM Yun-seok’s directorial debut Another Child, KANG Hyo-jin’s bodyswap comedy The Dude in Me, HAN Jun-hui’s action-thriller Hit-and-Run Squad, JUNG Da-won’s buddy cop comedy Miss and Mrs. Cops, PARK Nu-ri’s financial thriller Money, LEE Min-jae’s horror-comedy THE ODD FAMILY : ZOMBIE ON SALE and YOO Young-sun’s period horror The Wrath (2018).

Both Idol, which debuted at the Berlin International Film Festival earlier this year, and Another Child will take part in the festival’s signature Cheval Noir Competition section.

Among the short films in the lineup will be PARK Yeon’s Another, SHIN Hyun-woo’s Balloon (2018), HAN Seong-heun’s Barchestra (2018), LEE Sol-hee’s Clover, JEON Jin-kyu’s The Death Vendor, KIM Myung-eun’s The First Class, PARK Sae-mi’s Mira (2018), LEE Eu-song’s My Moon (2018) and KIM Se-yoon’s Rainy Season (2018).
