Jenne KANG Earns Best Actress from BronzeLens Film Festival

BLACKOREA Explores Bi-Racial Upbringing in Chicago’s South Side

The BronzeLens Film Festival of Atlanta, which unspooled its 9th edition from August 22 to 26 this year, awarded a Best Actress Award this year to Jenne KANG, for her performance in the short film BlacKorea.

From filmmaker Christine Swanson, BlacKorea focuses on two children in 1980s Chicago who are born to a Korean-American mother and an African-American father. KANG plays KIM Young-hie, a mother who suffers from domestic abuse at the hands of her military husband. BlacKorea is an autobiographical work from Patti Kim Gil, the writer, and producer of the short, who is herself of African-American and Korean heritage and grew up in Chicago’s South Side.

Active on screen for the last 13 years, KANG is a second generation Korean-American performer who moved to Los Angeles after completing her studies at Colombia University in New York. Since then she has split her time between films, TV series and shorts both in America and Korea. In 2005, KANG appeared alongside BAE Jong-ok, PARK Jin-hee and PARK Hee-soon in Love Talk (2005), the second work by drama auteur LEE Yoon-ki. Her most recent credit was an appearance in an episode of NCIS: New Orleans.

Director Swanson has also helmed four feature films, most recently 2016’s Love Under New Management: The Miki Howard Story.
